What’s the official website for obtaining an eVisa for Vietnam?
There are lots of websites purporting to issue visas for Vietnam, and they sometimes even come up as the top search results on Google, but the official site is here: https://evisa.xuatnhapcanh.gov.vn/ – don’t be fooled by sites with nicer sounding and seemingly more legitimate names!
As at June 2023, the cost of an eVisa is USD 25.00, payable online by card, with visas generally issued within 72 hours. Each visa is valid for 30 calendar days from entry, and you can only enter once (if you need to enter twice, simply apply for two eVisas).
Who can apply for an eVisa?
Passport holders from 80 different countries (including Australia, New Zealand, UK and the US) are eligible to apply for an eVisa – see the full list here: https://evisa.xuatnhapcanh.gov.vn/documents/20181/117155/Vietnam-Evisa-nation-list.pdf/21e0f88f-d8a0-48b8-bfdb-a0f82b0853e2
Note that eVisas are accepted for entry into at most major international airports, land ports and seaports, but smaller border checkpoints will not accept them. The list of eVisa enabled ports is here: https://evisa.xuatnhapcanh.gov.vn/documents/20181/117155/List-of-evisa-port.pdf/c774e24b-1ab8-4fb6-9ac1-dcdfaccecf8e
Do I need to visit an embassy or consulate to obtain my eVisa?
No there’s no need! All information is submitted and processed online. To complete the application, you will need to:
- upload a portrait photo
- upload the information page from your passport
- Provide your name, gender, date of birth, nationality, religion, passport number and expiry date, length of stay in Vietnam (not exceeding 30 days), address in Vietnam, email address, passport type, date of entry, purpose of entry, visa validity dates required, and intended entry and exit points in Vietnam
Once your application has been successfully processed, you will receive an electronic document to bring with you for entry (please print this out and carry it with you for your trip).
I applied for my eVisa through another website. Is my visa valid?
Many third party websites that advertise eVisas for Vietnam do end up obtaining a valid eVisa for you; they simply profit by charging you more than what the official site does. However, there are also websites out there that will (1) steal your identity or payment information, (2) charge you without providing the service, or (3) entice you into downloading malware on your computer. For peace of mind, we recommend always going direct to the source.
If you’ve already applied for an eVisa through an unofficial source, don’t panic just yet! We recommend:
- Verifying your eVisa through the official website by checking here: https://evisa.xuatnhapcanh.gov.vn/en_US/tra-cuu-ho-so
- If you don’t have all the details required to check your eVisa status, lodge an enquiry on the official website here: https://evisa.xuatnhapcanh.gov.vn/web/guest/lien-he
- Stay vigilant by checking your bank/card statements and credit report regularly.
