The Grand Egyptian Museum (GEM) will be the world’s largest archaeological museum, boasting an impressive collection of more than 100,000 ancient artifacts and treasures from Egypt’s past.

Located just two kilometres from the Giza Pyramids, this state-of-the-art museum will provide visitors with an unparalleled insight into the history and culture of this remarkable ancient civilization. The museum’s mission is to make the rich history of Egypt accessible to the world, allowing people from all walks of life to experience its wonders firsthand. It is an ambitious undertaking that aims to promote education and understanding about one of the world’s most ancient civilizations.

We are sure it will be worth the wait, but a few things must be kept in mind if you are travelling ahead of it officially opening to the public. As it stands, some items such as the mummies have been moved from the Egyptian Museum, except for a few. This has meant that many travellers have either visited Egypt expecting to see the new Museum, or the old Museum (Egyptian Museum) with all items still in one place, however quickly discovered the GEM to not be open, and the Egyptian Museum left with but a few mummies.

The GEM was originally planned to open in 2020 and has been delayed multiple times across the 3 years, now anticipated to have it’s doors open in 2023.
